Official Signing Ceremony: 3 Million MAD Mobilized Under the InnoEspa-Morocco Energy Call for Projects
As part of the World Power-to-X Summit 2025, the Moroccan Research Institute for Solar Energy and New Energies (IRESEN) hosted an official signing ceremony to announce the results of the InnoEspa-Morocco Energy Call for Projects. This initiative aims to support collaborative research and development between Moroccan and Spanish partners in the fields of renewable energy and the water-energy nexus.
Launched in collaboration with the Spanish Centre for the Development of Industrial Technology (CDTI), the program underscores the strategic importance of bilateral cooperation in accelerating innovation and advancing the energy transition.
A Joint Investment for High-Impact Innovation
A total of 3 million MAD has been mobilized by IRESEN to support the selected projects. This funding is complemented by nearly €500,000 in co-financing from CDTI and Spanish industrial partners, illustrating the leverage effect and added value of international collaboration.
This joint effort combines financial resources, scientific expertise, and technological capabilities to enhance the impact of applied research in both countries.
Selected Projects
Following evaluation, two innovative projects were selected under this call:
-
E-PAVE
A pioneering project aiming to transform road infrastructure into a source of clean energy through piezoelectric technology embedded in pavement systems. -
STDSCWG
A sustainable desalination solution powered by renewable energy, aiming to address water scarcity challenges through efficient and environmentally responsible technologies.
These projects highlight the growing role of research-driven innovation in addressing critical challenges related to energy and water security.
A Shared Commitment to Applied Research and Technology Transfer
The ceremony also recognized the work of the IRESEN project team – Soukaina Boudoudouh, Mohamed El Wazna, PhD, Asmaa Ed-Dahri, Khadir Badri, and Khaoula Cherqaoui – whose efforts reflect the institute’s commitment to advancing collaborative research programs and fostering innovation ecosystems.
“Collaborative innovation and technology transfer are decisive levers to accelerate the energy transition,” stated Samir Rachidi, Director General of IRESEN.
Strengthening Moroccan-Spanish Cooperation
This edition of the InnoEspa-Morocco Energy Call for Projects reinforces the strategic scientific partnership between Morocco and Spain. By aligning priorities and pooling resources, both countries aim to transform technological innovation into meaningful solutions that contribute to a sustainable and resilient future.
